Course Overview

If you are looking to gain a clear understanding of the difference between personal and health information, the protection of health information, and the rights of individuals’ privacy then you have found the right course.

Throughout this learning, you will be provided content explaining the different roles in the protection of health information and how they support one another. You will review the privacy principles that are used when information is collected, used, or disclosed. This learning highlights practical provisions that need to be in place for disclosure. You will be challenged to increase your awareness in how confidentiality, privacy and security are linked to one while being introduced to specific scenarios where privacy incidents commonly occur. In addition, you will be able to consider how you might mitigate risks in your own sphere of influence using multiple layers of safeguards and how to practice cyber hygiene.

    There are 5 online modules and uses self-paced delivery to work with busy schedules. It should take approximately 60 minutes or less to complete. A certificate of completion is issued upon completion.

    Designed for Alberta-based care providers. Focusing on the Health Information Act but can still be easily applied to other jurisdictions as most of the principles are the same.
